The infrastructure is a key element in the road network north of Milan, which is why improving its performance characteristics is a crucial step in shaping a new road system in this sector of the metropolitan area. This would provide an alternative to the urban stretch of the A4 Milan-Venice highway.
The works concern the highway upgrading of the SP46 provincial road in the stretch between the A52 North Ring Road and the FNM Milan-Varese railway line, with the aim of giving continuity to Milan’s northern rings. This will allow a direct connection between the A52 and the highway system to the west (A8 dei Laghi – “Highway of the lakes” – A4 Milan-Turin and A50 West Ring Road).
Moreover, the intervention will include the construction of a road network coplanar to the main road axis, aimed at ensuring local connections for the areas crossed by the new highway axis.
